I just got depressed learning about depression.

I just got depressed learning about depression.

I just got depressed learning that depression is the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide. Over the last ten years the global rate of depression has increased by 18 percent.

Eleven percent of Americans over the age of 12 are on antidepressant drugs.  One out of four women in their 40 and 50s are on antidepressants.  But that is not enough sales.  They now want to sell them to you before you get depressed.  Studies, most likely their studies, suggest nondepressed patients at high risk for depression may lower their risk by taking the drugs.

Let’s not consider that antidepressants are particularly hazardous for children, teens and women of childbearing age.  Research shows use of antidepressants during pregnancy raises the child’s risk of psychiatric disorders.

Research also shows use of antidepressants is associated with a 14 percent increased risk of a cardiovascular event, such as heart attack or stroke, and a 33 percent increased risk of premature death.

Mental health seems to be going extinct.  How could it not when it consists of a 15 minute consult with a psychiatrist before being put on psyche meds for the rest of your life?  I’ve read one study that stated that antidepressant meds work no better than a placebo, which always means that the drug they are discussing works no better than nothing, at all.  However, I’m sure any psychologist would say that they are useful.  I’m certainly not saying to not take them or ween down.  Only your doctor can do that.

A meta-analysis demonstrated that SSRIs and other antidepressants dramatically raise your risk of death.   They believe this occurs from a disruption of multiple adaptive processes.  Apparently we need serotonin which would seem to make sense since it has been in our bodies from way before cavemen days.  However, the experts and the experts are those that sell these drugs say they know better than the forces that created our bodies.

One reason why depression is on the rise is the way we eat is atrocious.   Junk food causes inflammation and that not only leads to many disease states, but it is thought to also affect our mood.  Our gut biome is an important factor and it has been practically destroyed by our farming and medical methods.  Our brains are affected by our guts.  Pre and pro biotics are vital to our health and mental health.  You should also be supplementing with Vitamin D3, Omegas 3’s, B complex, Tumeric, Bioflavonoids and minerals for basic brain support and overall better health.  There is plenty more things you could take, but that is a nice start.

BTW, the person writing this happens to be a chiropractor so let me share with you something that you probably won’t believe, but you should.

Studies have proven that chiropractic care improves thoughts, concentration and clarity.  The brain receives constant feedback from the nerve receptors in and around the spine and when the joints fire appropriately with normal alignment and movement the brain gets a better charge.  When abnormal movement and alignment of a vertebra occurs it creates abnormal feedback and thus, abnormal nutrition to the brain.  Chiropractic adjustments improve alignment, motion, and neurological nutrition to the brain!

That little tidbit should interest you whether you are crazy or not.

Legal briefs presented to the North Dakota Legislature by Judge A.W. Ponath in 1935 revealed that 27 of 44 cases where mentally ill patients were treated with Chiropractic care in the Jamestown State Insane Asylum were either cured or sufficiently recovered so that they could remain at home and resume their former responsibilities.  That is a 61% positive change.  Keep in mind drug companies can get a drug brought to market because it was more effective than a placebo, which means it was more effective than nothing at all.  That is a zero versus a 61% success rate.  The majority of these patients had already spent a large amount of time in asylums or sanatoriums and most were declared “incurable” by medical authorities.  Typically, these types of patients are doomed to an asylum for life.

Amazingly, some people would rather spend the rest of their life in a dysfunctional state of health than visit a chiropractor and I find that rather crazy.
