5 things you should know about you and your genetics

The Number 5

Below are highlights of what I thought was interesting from Bruce Lipton, Ph.D a world class author and researcher. His ideas have made him a celebrity and to me he stole them from the chiropractic profession.  But I’m glad he made our ideas popular.  However, the material below is addressing modern misconceptions.

1.

At the end of Charles Darwin’s life he admitted that his evolutionary theory had short changed the role of the environment.  We are not just a product of the survival of the fittest.  Our trillions of cells have to cooperate with each other even though modern medicine’s claim to fame is killing off all those cells in us that are not human.  For every one cell in our body that is human there are at least 10 that are not.  Antibiotics kill those cells that are necessary for us to be human.  Very few microbes create pathology in humans.  Of course you don’t want them proliferating, but it is our environment that can determine how well pathogens thrive within us.

Towards the end of Darwin’s life he had a change of heart.  However, the Darwinian evolutionists believe in the idea more than he did.  This eventually led to where we are presently, that genes control biology.  Lately, some scientists are coming around to realizing the field of epigenetics, which means our genes do not determine our biology, our environment is what will turn on those genes.

If you believe that genes control your life you may be convinced that you are going to die of some disease that your relatives had.  Very few diseases are gene related.  We are not subservient to our genes that someday will turn on us.  In the realm of human diseases, defective genes acting alone only account for approximately 2% of what we can catch or develop such as cystic fibrosis or sickle cell anemia.  It is a world apart to consider that something is linked to a disease than to cause a disease.  Our genes do not do something until they are activated. When a gene product is needed such as a specific protein, a signal from the environment will activate the gene.  We have over 100,000 different proteins that make us human.  We only have about 19,000 genes.  That disturbed a lot of scientists because they originally thought that only one gene could make one protein.

2.

Our 1 trillion cells are basically making proteins.  It takes over 100,000 different proteins to run our bodies.  These proteins come from different combinations of 20 amino acids.  These amino acids have different shapes. Where these electromagnetic positive and negative charges line up will create different shapes.  So one set of proteins could make a liver cell and another could be a kidney cell, or eye cell, etc. These chains can be incredibly long and if some of these sequences are not exact, the cell will destroy them and start making the right one over again.

To understand life, we need to understand proteins.  I’m not going there today, but I think it is obvious that electromagnetic fields can alter what makes us human.  I’m amazed that we are so resilient and not sicker than we are, which is the sickest industrialized nation in the world or close to being number one.

Proteins can shape shift a thousand times in a second and this movement empowers specific metabolic and behavioral functions.  It is the electromagnetic charges of the proteins not DNA that is responsible for their functions and behaviors.

Around 1910 scientists discovered chromosomes.  When they dissected the chromosomes they discovered that they are comprised of mostly protein and DNA.  Around 1944 we saw the next big advancement in understanding genetic material.  That is it was the DNA that contained the hereditary information.  DNA has very long strands and parts of them can be subdivided into genes which contain the codes for generating proteins.  DNA self replicates and that may be why scientists thought that it was it’s own boss.  This created a dogma that is still present today, that DNA rules.  The primacy of DNA is that it makes the Xerox copy of itself RNA, which then instructs the ribosomes on how to assemble the amino acids into proteins.  Proteins are our physical body.  The dogma is that this is a one way street, we cannot send information back to the DNA. DNA controls your life and you cannot influence it and that is now known as a wrong idea.

The human genome project began in the late 80’s.  It was going to catalog all of the genes in people.  At this point the wisdom was that we needed one gene to make up one protein and we are 100,000 proteins.   Plus we needed 20,000 regulatory genes.  So the scientists expected to find 120,000 genes in the 23 pairs of chromosomes.  They actually discovered less than 20,000.  More than 80% of the presumed DNA does not exist.  The one gene one protein concept was shattered.  This means that our theories on how life worked had to be scrapped.  That means that genetic engineers cannot fix all of our biological failings.

There are not enough genes to account for human life or disease.  It became clear that we do not gain our complexity over worms and such because we use more genes.  Genes do not explain why we are at the top of the evolutionary ladder.  A round worm has about 24,000 genes.  That is a few thousand more than us.  The particular species of worm studied has 969 cells.  The human body with 1 trillion cells has 19,000 genes.  Yes I’m enjoying this thinking of some of my pompous professors incorrect teachings.  The fruit fly has 15,000 genes.  The more complicated fruit fly as opposed to small round worm has 9,000 less genes.  Humans and rodents have approximately the same number of genes.

3.

DNA’s contribution to cellular life is not to be the brain of the cell, which is the nucleus where the genetic material resides.  It is actually more like the gonad of the cell.  It does the replicating.  Genes are not our destiny.  New research demonstrates that DNA blueprints passed down in genes are not set in concrete at birth.  Environmental influences such as stress, nutritional needs, etc. can modify our genes without changing their basic blueprint.

Scientists were so excited about DNA that they ignored the regulatory proteins that control it.  The chromosomes proteins are just as crucial to heredity as DNA.  The proteins cover the DNA and the information can’t be read until some environmental events/signals triggers the proteins to move away from a certain amount of codons of DNA which will in turn produce a required protein.  The activity of the gene is controlled by proteins which are influenced by the environment.

There are two mechanisms of how heredity is passed on.  Epigenetic signals can produce over 2,000 variations in proteins from the same gene blueprint.  Research has proven that enriched environments can overcome mice programmed to have genetic mutations.  When a human is deplete of methyl donors such as folic acid, the baby can end up with a deformed spine.  There are many numerous methyl donor nutrients in foods most of us no longer eat and they change the way our proteins work, which then effects our genes and we can wind up with poor health.  Your diet is more important than your genes.

I know what you’re thinking.  What about Angelina Jolie’s BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 genes.  A lot of girls and women are wanting their breasts cut off because they have those genes as well.  If you’ve been paying attention up until now, then you know the media has created a terrible catastrophe by scaring everyone into needless surgery and suffering.  They forgot to mention that 95% of breast cancers are not due to inherited genes.  These cancers are caused by environmental pathologically derived mutations not defective genes.  Research has revealed that just by changing the diet of prostate cancer patients for 90 days over 500 genes were changed for the better if they had a better dietary change.

4.

News flash:  Scientists have discovered that information can be transmitted to descendants in ways other than through the sequence codes of DNA.   Endothelial cells that line our blood vessels can change into macrophages, (which are like garbage trucks) when they have been irritated with inflammatory agents.  The cells can transform even when their DNA was destroyed with gamma rays.  They were able to change their biological behavior even without the brain of the cell which is the nucleus, which holds the DNA.  These cells exhibited intelligent control in the absence of their genes.  Cells are shaped by where they live.   Environment not genes dictate human immune function.

A Stamford study found that three quarters of the variations in the immune systems of identical twins, that share the same genome, were due to non inherited traits from environmental influences.  I guess I keep harping on this because the health experts told us to lock down away from the environment and wait for a vaccine that is now demonstrating some incredibly horrible judgement on behalf of the experts.   The results in twins over 60 were greater than in twins under 20 and that is due to the fact that they’ve been busier picking up things during their activities of daily living, such as walking outside.  Not locking down.

Sequencing someone’s genome to discover what diseases they might succumb to later in life is a fools endeavor.  The origin of over 90% of human genes can be traced back to more than 100 million years ago.  This means there is a good chance that worms and humans share mostly the same genes.  It is evident that gene populations do not determine organismal evolution.  The same gene used to code for Keratin protein found in hair also provides for the following:  Skin, nails, claws, horns, hooves.  The genes that control the coding for a keratin molecule does not determine how that keratin will be used.  The genes provide for the building blocks, but do not account for it’s structure or complexity.  Genes that encode our building blocks constitute less than 2% of our genome’s DNA.  The vast majority of our DNA does not contribute to the cells protein population.

This led Francis Crick to label it as junk DNA.  It is doubtful that nature would waste anything.  Today that DNA is referred to by geneticists as dark matter.  The Encode Project was formed to figure out what this junk was.  80% of that junk DNA is involved in regulating the DNA that does produce proteins.  Dark DNA also contains mechanisms for using environmental factors to alter our responses to life.  This is how a human cell with 19,000 genes can code for over 100,000 proteins.  There are over 4 million gene switches in the non coding junk DNA.

90 cancer patients had their genomes analyzed.  They discovered about 100 mutations in non coding DNA that were directly involved with the cancer.  Now scientists are looking into if this dark DNA is associated with other diseases.

5.

Telomere DNA is not part of the protein coding process.  It’s two functions are to stop the DNA from unwinding.  Kind of like those plastic tips on the ends of your shoe laces.  If your telomeres get old, you get old because your DNA falls apart.  They also provide the platform for where the DNA divides.  Each time a strand of DNA duplicates it winds up getting a little shorter.  I guess that is called aging.  Telomeres help prevent that shrinkage.  Cells studied in a petri dish reveal that they can divide about 50 generations before the DNA starts to breakdown and make faulty proteins.

Cell biologists have discovered an enzyme called telomerase that enhances and extends our life.  Sadly life experiences can also suppress telomerase activity.  Stress, PTSD, lack of love, faulty nutrition, can adversely affect these enzymes.  Exercise, good nutrition, good mental attitude, etc. can increase the life of these enzymes and therefore us.  A study of breast cancer patients that had a support group had better telomeres than ones that didn’t.

Our minds can actively enhance our telomerase enzymes, which is the fountain of youth.  I’d prefer to have a grateful mind than a vaccine.  These enzyme systems have existed for millions of years.  Modern medicine maybe around 140?  Chiropractors not medical doctors work with the life force within our bodies.  Maybe one day they will develop pills that can truly work wonders with our life force, but until then I choose Chiropractic treatment that doesn’t have a list of side effects so long that the world’s fastest talking people with the recording sped up can’t say them all.  Nothing is more powerful than a chiropractic adjustment for improving your cells environment.  Of course not eating junk food is a vital strategy for health as well.  Combine those two with exercise and a good mental attitude and your doctor will be wondering why you don’t require medication and will insist that you take some anyway.  You are allowed to say no.
