Should You Consider A Chiropractor For A Whiplash Injury?

Often patients have told me that the experts, the real doctors, warned them against going to a chiropractor for their whiplash injuries.  I guess they didn’t read the research that concluded that it should be considered malpractice not to have a chiropractor in an emergency room.  The world’s largest anti-trust lawsuit resolved with the AMA being forced to admit chiropractors to work in emergency rooms.  That was around 1987.  To this day, I don’t think you are going to find a chiropractor working in an emergency room.

The science has long been in, and the insurance companies know what workers compensation boards know, that the patients that receive chiropractic care for spinal injuries including car accident whiplash type injuries do much better if they receive only chiropractic care.

One caveat is if after the injury/accident you need to hold your head up with your hands, then you should go to an emergency room and talk them into doing a motion study of your upper cervical ligaments to make sure that they are not torn.  I’ve worked on thousands of car accident victims over the decades and I’ve never seen this, but it can happen.

I’ve attached a little A.I. generated chart that might be useful.  Thanks to Professor John Schaffer who made this for me.
